Book Review Monday – A FEW DEAD MEN – Plus a Contest

Like most authors, I’m also an avid reader of many genres and I’m dedicating Monday’s as a day to celebrate other author’s books that I’ve enjoyed. Please feel free to add your own suggestions, as I’m always looking for another good book to read.

This week, I’m reviewing, A FEW DEAD MEN by Nancy Lauzon, author of the Chick Dick Mysteries.

You’ll also have a chance to win either a copy of A FEW DEAD MEN or another Chick Dick Mystery of your choice (details below).

If you’re a fan of murder mysteries and dark comedies with enough twists to keep you in suspense until the last page, then I highly recommend you step into the world of Nancy Lauzon’s, A FEW DEAD MEN, A Chick Dick Mystery.

The dialogue is witty and the plot is smart and fast paced with a splash of unexpected love. The main protagonist, Darcy is a perfect balance of vulnerability and intelligence that makes her relatable and loveable. Each of the secondary characters all play an integral part in the book. The relationship between Darcy and her best friend Gio will give you plenty of laugh-out-loud moments with their amateur sleuthing and relationships with their perspective families.

The developing relationship between Darcy and her new boss, Smith, will have you rooting for them both.

As for the murder mystery, just when you thought you have it all figured out, an unpredictable twist will surprise you.

A FEW DEAD MEN has all the elements you expect in a Chick Dick Mystery, plus more.

  1. I love a good mystery and a good laugh when something is funny.
Having both in a book makes for a really good read.

  2. I’ve never even heard the term Chick Dick, LOL! So I HAVE to try this genre out! The closest thing to mysteries I’ve read have been the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum novels, mostly because they make me laugh out loud at her antics 😀
I typically read paranormal romances, but I love all romance, from sweet to erotic, and I’ll try anything, as long as it has some romance thrown in there somewhere 😉

I’m already an email subscriber and I shared on Facebook and Twitter:!/Mystchevia/status/179275829740716032

Thanks so much for the giveaway chance! This has been fun 😀

    • Hi, Gena, thanks for your support via FB and Twitter of this blog, glad you had fun.

I thought Nancy’s concept of naming her series Chick Dicks was genius. Nothing like it out there. Us chicks can be detectives any time, any place. LOL

    • Hi Gena,

If you like Stephanie Plum, you’ll like the Chick Dicks! Thanks for your comments!

    • CONGRATULATIONS, Gena, your name was picked in the draw. Not only will you, along with EVERYONE else here receive a copy of a FEW DEAD MEN, but you’ll also receive another Chick Dick Mystery of your choice.

I will email you the details.

  4. I read a lot of romantic suspense novels with a little comedy mixed in. Would love to win A Few Dead Men. I have read the entire Death series by JD Robb.

  5. I enjoyed being surprised and like varitey so this seems to be just the thing! I am now a follower. And I shared on facebook under this name: Jeanne Sheats shared a link. (I don’t have a clue how Gena did it up above, sorry.

  6. Kimberly Frost’s Southern Witch Series are really good, lots of comedy and the mysteries aren’t easy to figure out.

    • Thanks for the recommendation, Theresa. I’m getting a lot of titles to add to my TBB pile for the summer.

You will have a chance to read A FEW DEAD MEN, Nancy has generously decided to give EVERYONE a copy of her book.

I will email you with details.

  7. I am always looking for new authors to read and your book sounds really good. I like a good mystery. I like reding those mysteries written by the British especially Agatha Christie. I just finished reading Dead Head by Rosemary Harris. it was really good and QI plan to read the other books of hers in that series.

  8. Thanks for the info on this book…I’ve never read a Chick Dick story so would love to win this one to read.

  9. I’m reading the series A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE by George RR Martin. It is brilliant. I have not yet watched the first book GAME OF THRONES.

  10. Selena, thanks for a chance to win a book by an author new to me! Nancy, the excerpt from A FEW DEAD MEN definitely makes me want to read the whole book!
I’m not a an avid TV watcher, but I have to admit…I’m addicted to Blue Bloods!! It’s got suspense, it’s got drama, it’s got family values, it’s got Tom Selleck…what more could you ask for?!?! 😉

    • Hi, Robin, I’m a Blue Bloods fan as well. Tom Selleck is at his best in this role. I love the suspense and family drama as well. I hesitate to say I love this show, because when I really love a program it usually gets cancelled. LOL

You will have a chance to read A FEW DEAD MEN, Nancy has generously decided to give EVERYONE a copy of her book.

I will email you with details.

  11. I’m not in a good mood. Spent last night in the ER. I have 2…2 hernias!! I feel terrible but I bet a CHICK DICK mystery would cheer me. I’m reading a lot now. Basically all I can do is sit on this infernal machine or lie on the couch and read. Love the name and cover for AFDM.

    • Mel, sorry to hear about your medical challenges, feel better soon and YES, reading is a great escape when you’re feeling low.

You will have a chance to read A FEW DEAD MEN, Nancy has generously decided to give EVERYONE a copy of her book.

I will email you with details.

    • Mel, so sorry to hear about your illness. Nothing more depressing than an ER dept. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

  12. Nancy, thank you for visiting us again on my blog. Love having you and your books here. On behalf of everyone who commented, thank you also for generously giving away a copy of a FEW DEAD MEN to EVERYONE who commented.

Congratulations to Gena Robertson, her name was picked in the draw. I will purchase a copy of another of the Chick Dick Mysteries of her choice.

I appreciate all the book recommendations and I as well as Nancy are grateful for your support of books and blogs.

  13. I have Gone Groom Gone by Nancy, but I haven’t read it yet. After reading your review of A Few Dead Men, I’ll have to move it up my incredibly long TBR list.

I enjoy mysteries and a little humor never goes wrong. This series sounds a little like Stephanie Bond’s Body Mover series or Lois Greiman’s Chrissy McMullen series.

  14. Squee!! Thank you so much, Selena! I’m so excited and thrilled to get a chance to sink my teeth into this new to me genre 😀 I can’t thank you enough for the generous giveaway! (((Hugs!)))

    • Gena, so pleased for you. As an added bonus, I should mention that ANYONE who reads AFDM and likes it enough to write a review can send me the link and win a 2nd Chick Dick Mystery of their choice, absolutely free.

      All the best,
      Nancy 🙂
