Young people today look up to professional athletes for their power, grace and ability on the field or court. Sometimes sports figures are also heralded by young people for their high-flying lifestyles, material assets and high-profile friends.

Military: Roman Centurion in Romance

Please welcome the multi-talented, award winning novelist, Denise Agnew to my blog.
FOR A ROMAN’S HEART is now out in paperback and Denise is here to share the story behind the story. I had the honor of critiquing FOR A ROMAN’S HEART and loved it. I’m looking forward to reading it again now that it’s out in paperback. It’s a wonderful read which I highly recommend, with all the elements that makes a Denise Agnew book stand out: suspenseful, sensual, romantic and adventurous.
Denise, thank you for stopping by my blog to talk about your latest paperback release.
When I wrote For A Roman’s Heart a few years back, I knew it wasn’t the soup du jour in romance to write about anything Roman.
Yes, Rome was on HBO, and quite a few people raved about that program, including me. Still, it isn’t a time period many romance readers are fond of reading.
So why did I write it? Because I’ve always wanted to write about Romans. Especially Roman Britain. I wanted to show a heroine who has been through hell and back, who is strong but vulnerable. I wanted to create a hero who is also tough, but discovers a woman who changes aspects of his war-hardened soul and brings him fully to life. I also wanted them to encounter a formidable enemy.
Vintage Family Baking Recipes

I’ve been busy this month writing my work in progress (working title—–the Un-Named Novel, as I haven’t come up with a title yet). I climbed out of the writing cave to scour my mother-in-law’s recipes as I’m thinking about starting some Christmas baking and thought I’d share a few with you all.
- Gingerbread Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Lemon Frosting (my mouth is watering, thinking about these—–spicy, sweet & refreshing)
- Frying Pan Cookies (no idea why they’re called frying pan cookies, since you don’t use a frying pan (has to be one of those secret family quirks)
- Apple Crisps (my father-in-law made up this recipe one day. It’s quick, easy and so tasty)
- Christmas Butter Cookies (yes, there’s butter, but it’s Christmas, one or two won’t land on your hips—–well, just in case, put in some extra gym time)
- Chocolate Mayo Cake (yes, that’s right, you use mayonnaise, but trust me, it’s moist and chocolate-ilcious) topped with Buttercream Frosting
How Being Homeless Inspired a Beautiful Novel

Please welcome, Michael J. Sullivan as he shares his personal journey that inspired his novel, Necessary Heartbreak: A Novel of Faith and Forgiveness.
At the end of Michael’s post, I have written my review of Necessary Heartbreak: A Novel of Faith and Forgiveness.
It’s a poignant, memorable and inspirational read.
I highly recommend this book for all ages. This book would make a great family read as it opens the lines of communication for a good discussion, especially for book clubs.
I remember vividly when I came close to my breaking point. My unwashed hair was grimy and my clothes smelled from having been worn for three straight weeks. I buried my unshaven face into my jacket as I stepped onto the E train, clinging to my green garbage bag of belongings. It was holiday time and the train was packed but it was my home at night during the winter of 1983-84. I was exhausted from walking so much, searching for a job. A seat opened up between two passengers and I sat down. A well-dressed woman gave me “the look.”
And I wrote.
