Jewel’s Ketchup Recipe

Many of you have emailed me and asked about Jewel and Blake, wanting to know what happened next?

Did they end up getting married?

Did Blake discover any other secret babies out there?

Did Jewel cover up her double d’s?

Did Blake get a hair transplant?

This is how all it went down after they walked off the blog and into that place where all romance hero and heroine’s go.

(For those who have not read Jewel & The Billionaire Dream Man – A Romance Parody, please click here).

THE EPILOGUE

Please Note: No unicorns or rainbows were utilized in the making of this epilogue.

Jewel and Blake went back to Jewel’s place.

Blake just had to see—with his one good eye—exactly what the P.P. room looked like.

Jewel waxed Blake’s neck and back—once an Esthetician always an Esthetician.

Blake broke out in rash but sucked it up. Once an alpha-romance man, always an alpha-romance man.

Rash or no rash, he got through the epilogue, however it did put a damper on Mr. Big’s performance.

Jewel wanted to know more about Blake. How did he become a billionaire?

Blake was a Geek Tycoon—he had invented the @ key for keyboards.

He has the @ symbol tattooed on his calves, toes, and a string of @’s snaking all around his thighs.

Jewel has scaredofsymbolphobia—a fear of symbols.

She broke out in a rash when he dropped his polyester pants.

They broke up.

Blake is still building rooms in different coffee shops as he hooks up with other heroines from the Double-U-Double-U-Midsummer-Night-Dream-Man-Dating-Site Dot com.

Jewel is still searching for her dream man. She does miss Billionaire Blake though, and when she thinks of him she always gets a hankering for Ketchup—the stain on his T-shirt and on Secret Baby’s bib kick-started her preserving tomatoes clock.

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday

Jewel’s Delicious Homemade Ketchup

(This is delectable Ketchup & could also be used as BBQ sauce)

Ingredients:

2 (28 ounce) cans peeled ground tomatoes

1/2 cup water

1/2 TBSP honey

3/4 cup red wine vinegar

2 tsp. minced sweet onion

2 tsp. roasted garlic (or 1/2 tsp. garlic powder)

2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. mustard powder

1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

Directions:

  1. In a slow cooker (crock pot) add: ground tomatoes, water, honey, vinegar, onion, garlic, salt, celery salt, mustard powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper and whisk it all together.
  2. Cook on high for 10, stirring every hour.
  3. Remove cover from the slower cooker, and cook for an additional 2 – 3 hours, uncovered so that the mixture reduces to a thick consistency.
  4. Ladle the ketchup into a fine strainer and press mixture with a big wooden spoon into a big bowl.
  5. Cool completely.
  6. Taste and season with additional salt & pepper if you feel it needs it, and at this point you can also add more cayenne pepper if you want it spicier.

Let’s wish Jewel and Blake all the best and hope they find what they’re looking for.

Maybe they’ll show up in Muffy and Sven’s story?

“Humor and grief. Like apple pie and ice cream?”

Please join me in welcoming Rosanna Leo to this week’s Tasty Tuesday installment.

Rosanna is chatting about how humor and grief go together, and is dishing up a slice of…I bet you think I’m going to say apple pie, right? Well, she’s fresh out of home baked goodies, instead she is serving up a slice of her new, hot and sexy release SELKIE’S REVENGE (blurb and excerpt posted below).

Never fear, there’s always food on the blog on Tuesday’s, so in honor of Rosanna’s blog post and because she’s as sweet as apple pie…I’m sharing an apple pie recipe that is as delicious as the Selkie on Rosanna’s book cover.

Trust me, the sauce that goes with this recipe is like a big ‘O’ for your taste buds (recipe below).

Without further ado, or naughty food metaphors, I give you, the witty and fun-loving Rosanna Leo.

* * *

I’d like to offer a huge thank you to my pal, Selena, for hosting me today! I’m so proud to be here.

If you know either of our canons of work, you know humor is pretty important to our writing. I never really fancied myself a comedic writer, but once I discovered my author’s voice, I realized there was a lot of snark and silliness in there. Go figure.

This doesn’t usually present a problem to me. You see, I write paranormal and contemporary romance and there’s plenty of room for humor in both genres. However, with my latest work, SELKIE’S REVENGE, I realized pretty quickly that it couldn’t be a total funfest. You see, one of the themes is grief and how it can devastate a person.

Funny, huh?

Perhaps not, but if you’re like me, you still laugh at that scene in Mary Tyler Moore where Mary cracks up at a funeral. Even in our darkest moments, we do seek the light. We look for something, anything, to ease our burden. And humor can be an incredible stress reliever. Just a little giggle, a modicum of silly, can sometimes take a bit of our pain away, or at least push it aside for a little while. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t tend to look for pratfalls at funerals. I don’t lay banana peels in the church aisle in the hopes of tripping up one of the funeral directors. But sometimes a shared memory can trigger a smile, even a laugh. And when that happens, another part of our heart is touched. The sadness becomes more poignant and bittersweet.

So in writing about the grieving process of my heroine, did I leave out the humor? No. Let’s face it, life is funny. And I think a book that dwells only on sadness would just about break my heart. We need something uplifting, a little sweetness. A reason to keep reading.

Have a seat with me now. Let’s put on that episode of Mary Tyler Moore, and pay homage to Chuckles the Clown. Because, dammit, it is hilarious!

Blurb:

On the beaches of Orkney, Scotland, an evil entity stalks mortal women. Machar “Mack” Kirk is a selkie man with a haunted past, one that has prompted him to become a hunter. He prowls the beaches at night, his arrows aiming for the finman who took his first love.

Beth Pedersen also watches the sea. The haunted widow has suffered losses of her own, ones that have crippled her into a state of stony grief. Beth can no longer feel, can no longer see color and life. Until the day Mack Kirk saves her from a mysterious foe, flooding her world with brightness and foreign temptation.

As Mack and Beth fight their inundating passion, the finman escalates his attacks. Before long, Mack realizes he’s not just playing Good Samaritan. He wants Beth, too, and will do anything to ensure his lover isn’t taken by the finman. But can he protect his mate from a monster with no soul?

Excerpt:

As a torrent of emotion coiled up through her core, Beth kissed him. She barely understood his words, barely comprehended her own thoughts, but she knew she needed Mack’s mouth upon hers. She smashed her lips against his, and his tongue penetrated the warmth of her mouth, finding its home there. He slid his hands down her back to her bottom, and he groaned, digging into the soft flesh of her behind.

Desire and common sense raged a war inside her head. Common sense told her to pack a bag, purchase a ticket to New Smyrna, and leave Mack Kirk far behind. Desire told her to submit, and it was winning out by a mile. “I don’t know what to do. I need you to tell me what to do.”

He leaned in, smelling so sweet, like an exotic fruit she just needed to peel and gobble up. “Just let go, Beth. Just feel.”

She dared to look him in the eye. “I’m afraid to feel.”

“I know. For years I was too.” He brushed his lips against hers, and his tongue slipped out to caress between them, making her ache with such yearning. “But I’ll help you.”

Jamie and Edan arrived with beers. Edan gave Jamie a look as if knowing they’d interrupted something. “I’m heading back to the bar to try my luck with the luscious bartender.”

Jamie grimaced. “The old one with the beard?”

“Not him, you eejit,” Edan said with a grunt. “The female bartender. The one with the big…” He paused, looking at Beth. “Uh, bottle of vodka. Right, that one.” He dashed off.

Jamie winked at Beth. “I’ll get to her first.” With a smile, he was after his brother.

She leaned against Mack’s wall of a chest, wanting to lose herself in him. “Show me how to feel again.”

“With pleasure,” he growled into her ear. He nibbled her earlobe and then proceeded to slide back out of the booth.

“Where are you going?” she asked, already needy for his touch again.

“Just to the jukebox,” he replied, grinning. “You are going to dance with me. And feel.”

She watched, glued to her seat as Mack inserted a couple of coins into the jukebox and selected a song. He turned to her, his lips curled in a grin. As the first rolling guitar chords of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” washed over her, making her want to move, Mack beckoned to her with a finger.

Beth’s body moved toward him, responding like a homing pigeon diving toward its destination. He pulled her into his arms and they swayed. Beth had never danced so closely with a man to anything but a romantic ballad, but Mack wouldn’t break contact with her. He moved his hard body against hers, his hands on her hips, and his erection was a thick temptation grinding against her stomach. She had to fight the need to drop to her knees, rip down his jeans, and take his cock deep in her throat. The urge, and the depth of emotion accompanying it, made her light-headed. He turned her away from the bar area toward the nearest wall and slid his hands over the curve of her bottom. His fingers dug into her ass, and Beth had to remind herself they were in public. She wanted him to nail her right to the wall. Through the damn wall. She needed him inside her at all costs.

He felt so good.

My mate. Could it be?

He lowered his head so he could whisper against her ear. “Do you feel me, Beth? Do you feel my desire throbbing against you? My need to be joined to you again?”

The song reached its crescendo, and his hips rolled against hers in a heady foreshadowing of what he would do to her the next time they were alone. Beth closed her eyes. The way he moved was sinful. She imagined devils from the most depraved circles of hell might dance in such a fashion. All of a sudden, even her soft leggings felt tight and restrictive. She wanted them off. She wanted no barrier between their bodies. As if sensing her need, Mack reached a discreet hand toward her breast and located her distended nipple through her tunic. He tugged and she had to bite her lip not to cry out.

“Take me home, Mack,” she begged in an unfamiliar, wanton voice. “I want to feel more.”

Chocolate Pizza

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday. I’m plucking a recipe from the Cook Like A Writer cook book for this week, as I’ve been in my writer’s cave, participating in the BOOK IN A MONTH CLUB.

I’m also interviewed on Lucy Pireel’s blog today. If you have a moment, click HERE and hop on over to Lucy’s blog and say hello, that is, after you pick up this recipe that I know you’ll want to try.

Most people love pizza.

Most people love chocolate.

Why not put those two together for a heavenly experience? The only thing missing is the stuffed crust, but then again, what’s stopping you from using your imagination and stuffing the crust with more chocolate?

Chocolate Pizza is also a favorite of Maddie Saunders, the heroine in What A Girl Wants. I swear that girl would dip broccoli and asparagus in chocolate if she could.

Kids will love this pizza and the kid in the adult will also enjoy a slice…or two.

Ingredients:

Pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 stick unsalted butter (about 2 tablespoons butter) melted

1/4 cup as Nutella spared

3/4 cup milk chocolate chips

For Optional Toppings see below

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450°F.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Sprinkle some flour on your working surface.

Roll out dough on the surface (if using a round pizza pan, then roll out to fit pan, or if using a square pan roll out to fit that pan)

Transfer dough to baking sheet.

Using your thumb, make indentations all over the dough.

Brush the dough with melted butter over.

Bake for about 20 minutes (until dough is a light golden.)

Remove from oven and spread the Nutella over the hot crust.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips all over and return to the oven.

Bake for another 2 – 3 minutes or until chocolate begins to melt.

Cut into slices.

Delicious this way, or experiment with the optional toppings below, or some of

your own creations.

Optional Toppings.

Mini marshmallows (sprinkle on top and broil for 1 – 2 minutes, until marshmallows are golden)

Sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts before serving

Sprinkle with shredded coconut before serving

Add colorful M&M’s before serving

Sprinkle a bit of cayenne pepper, for that sweet & spicy experience

Canadian Eats, eh.

Whenever we travel to another country and return home, we realize how fortunate we are to be living in such a beautiful country. As much as we sometimes complain about Canadian weather—summer in Canada is when it stops snowing, around March, no, April, well, probably more like mid-May—it is a privilege to be a Canadian citizen.

Key Lime Pie for a Hot Hero

Last week I interviewed Kristen Ashley and we chatted about a time capsule, hot bikers and firemen she’s met, what it takes to be a Rock Chick and of course a mutually loved topic…yes, you guessed it—mouthwatering—food (I know what you were all thinking…..well, there is that of course).

Going out for burrito’s with a hot cop!

“I’m payin’ and if you even open your mouth to argue with me, I’m gonna be forced to find a way to stop you from speaking.” — Kristy Wyatt’s favorite quote by Mitch Lawson (hero) from Law Man—Dream Man Series by Kristen Ashley.

This week we are going out to dinner with Mitch, Mara, Billy and Billie as they venture out on on their first outing for delicious burrito’s.

As Mitch said in the quote above, we can’t argue about who’s paying, which is not a problem, since we physically can’t go out to dinner with him…such a shame. However, I am offering up my version of a burrito for this Tasty Tuesday’s recipe (recipe below).

GIVEAWAY: Don’t miss out on the fabulous prizes Kristen Ashley is gifting to five lucky readers (details below).

WARNING: The discussion on this blog post and quotes from the book are of an explicit nature intended for adult audience only.

Review by Heidi Wiley

LAW MANMara Hanover never had any intention of telling her hot detective neighbor Mitch Lawson that she’s been in love with him for the past four years, but when a family crisis arises she has no choice but to turn to the man that knows the system and finds her dream man will do most anything to help her.

Law Man is the third release in the Dream Man series. This book had a different tone than the previous novels in the series.

Not only did Law Man center on the hot romance between Mara and Mitch, it also touched on the heartache endured by some in today’s society.

I loved how Kristen Ashley developed Mitch’s calm, caring attitude which made him as attractive as his looks, smarts and toughness. Mara’s willingness to give everything she had for her cousin’s children’s best interest was as heartwarming as the story it’s wrapped in.

Kristen Ashley writes this novel not only based on two lovers, but a circle of life that includes two adorable children that any reader will fall in love with.

As always, Kristen Ashley’s characters’ passion for one another is sexy hot, intense and makes us all wish our neighbors were as sexy as Detective Mitch Lawson.

I highly recommend Law Man and give it 5 Stars.

Heidi’s favorite quote: “You could cover up that nightie with a snowsuit, sweetheart, but you in my living room wearin’ nothing but that nightie is burned on my brain in a way that I like a fuckuva lot. So all I’m gonna see is you in that fuckin’ nightie no matter what you put on over it.”

“That’s insane,” I snapped.

“You’re not a guy,” he replied.

Gitte’s favorite: “I’ll go gentle, baby,” he whispered against my lips. “I promise. You’ll always be safe with me.”
“Mitch,” I breathed.
His soulful eyes held mine captive as he repeated firmly, “Always.”

“Never believed in this shit, but now, I’m thinkin’ I fell in love with the promise of you the first time I saw you.”

Kelly Bennett’s: Mitch talking to Mara: “Since I have your attention, baby, and I see you beatin’ your retreat, I want you to take this with you when you slide back into that cocoon. Straight up, Mara, I want you in my bed. And when you’re in my bed, I’m gonna be in you. And while I’m movin’ inside you, I’m gonna make you come with your long, fuckin’ legs wrapped around my back, when my hands are finally on that fantastic fuckin, ass of yours, your tongue’s in my mouth and you’re kissin’ me as only you can kiss me. I know you got a way of twistin’ shit so it’s fucked up in your brain so I’m hopin’ if I’m direct about just what I want from you, it might penetrate and you might keep it straight long enough to give us both what we’ve been wantin’ for a long fuckin’ time.”

Pat Fordyce’s: Mitch talking to the kids, Billy & Billie. “Donuts are a Sunday breakfast when you got nothin’ to do but watch cartoons. Oatmeal is a before school breakfast, when you gotta activate your brain.”

Selena’s favorite: Mitch Lawson is a hero that will melt any reader’s heart, especially when he is talking to the children as in the following two quotes I chose as my favorites:

“You sleep okay, sweetie?” Mitch asked.
“Miss my teddy,” Billie replied.
Personally, I thought Detective Mitch Lawson was far superior to a tiny pink teddy bear but I wasn’t six years old.

Mitch nodded. “Right. What I mean is, I didn’t fall in love with you all as a whole. I fell in love with each of you because of who you are. I don’t care about you because you come with Mara. I care about you because you’re a good kid. You’re smart. You’re loyal. And you love and look out for your sister and Mara. I know grown men who do not have a character as fine as yours. Those are the reasons I love you. There are different reasons I love Billie. And there are different reasons I love Mara. Today, what we had together was good. But the feelings I feel for you aren’t feelings I have to have in order to have Mara. They’re feelings you earned. Now, you with me?”

“I love you, Bud,” he whispered to Billy and two more tears escaped.

“I love you too, Mitch,” Billy whispered back, and my breath hitched and both males’ eyes came to me.

I waved my wineglass at them and murmured, “Don’t mind me. Have your moment.”

Mitch leaned back, letting Billy go and grinning at me. “Men don’t have moments.”

“You do,” I returned. “I’m witnessing one.”

“This isn’t a moment, honey, it’s a meeting of the minds,” Mitch contradicted me.
