Own The Wind

I realize that the title of this blog post may be a bit deceiving, given what we talked about in my last blog, however this post has nothing to do with Yoga, or Yogini or the Blazing Saddle Twins.

Today, we’re talking about OWN THE WINDthe first book in the Chaos Series by Kristen Ashley.

The Chaos Series picks up after the last book (Motorcycle Man) in the Dream Man Series.

Chaos is made up of badass, alpha, motorcycle guys who love Tequila, their women riding on the back of their bikes and hog roasts.

I wonder if the Chaos badasses used a roaster like this for their famous hog roast parties?

Aug5-5

The gals from The Sassy, Classy and if you mess with them….Kick Assy Cool Chick Bunch joined me for a Buddy-Group read.

After discussing the book, some of the gals (a few of the gals had chosen the same quote as their sassy sister’s, so we didn’t duplicate) kindly provided their favorite quotes from the book.

Also, Heidi Wiley is back synposizing and reviewing the book.

The hero, Shy, is lean and sculpted, gorgeously tattooed, drives a muscle-bike (I know there are muscle cars, pretty sure we can say muscle-bikes), he’s of course a badass hottie, and he’s been “claimed” by one of the Sassy Chicks; Michele Serabian. Shy is one of Michele’s favorite hero’s in the Chaos Series.

sh-2

The heroine, Tabby, is smart, funny, attractive (how could she not be, her dad is Tack from Motorcycle Man), however, unlike her alpha-full-of-hotness father (well, Tack happens to be my favorite hero in the series) Tabby can NOT cook.

SH

In honor of Tabby and Shy’s book and the passages in the book where Shy had to order pizza, because he couldn’t salvage Tabby’s culinary offerings, we’re having a pizza party on the blog this week, where I will be sharing homemade pizza recipes, plus a gluten-free recipe.

So y’all come back now, y’a here (a couple of the Sassy Chicks have been giving me Southern speak lessons….bless their hearts.) 🙂

A few favorite Quotes from Own The Wind

Gitte Doherty (Totally Booked Blog): “I never dreamed any fuckin’ dream,” he whispered, and the smile faded from her face as tears filled her eyes.

She understood him. “Shy.”

“Didn’t dream it, saw it, waited my time, and then you gave it to me.”

***

“May feel like you’re fallin’, Tabby, but remember, I’m at the bottom ready to catch you.”

***

Michele Serabian: So many to choose from! Of course, I have to go with Shy. (See told you Michele claimed him)

“You need a safe place just to forget shit and escape, I’ll give it to you. Tonight. Tomorrow. Next week. Next month. That safe place is me, Tabby.”

***

Kame: “Nothin’ to say, Tabby. Life was shit. Lost my family, years later, found a new family. Then life wan’t shit anymore.”

***

Kelly Bennett: “I have never, not once, not in my life, made love to any woman. Not once. Not until what I just did with you.”

***

Shy Cage never dreamed a dream still, he knew, with out a doubt since he was holding one in his arms, dreams were real.

Pat Fordyce: “It was the best day of my life, and a lot of that had to do with looking into my husbands eyes and seeing, plainly it was the best day of his.”

Selena’s: “Tyra told me you two went at it for days over a flippin’ fridge,” Tack said. “Badasses are capable of and don’t hesitate to throw down about a fridge. An IT geek does not care what kind of fridge you buy. An IT geek just thanks his lucky stars he’s gettin’ it regular.”

Heidi Wiley’s Review

“Tack studied him. Then quietly, he stated, “She’s my only daughter, man.”

“And she’s the only woman I’ve ever loved, Tack,” Shy shot back instantly.”

OTWSynopsis:

Parker “Shy” Cage claimed he was an angel. In between wild women, work and maintaining a solid position within the Chaos Motorcycle club, he kept a watchful eye on Tabitha Allen, not because she was the daughter of Tack Allen, the president of the motorcycle club, but because she was the only woman that had ever had a hold of his heart.

Not thrilled about the company she was keeping; Shy decided to give her a lesson in tough love to convince her to stay on the straight and narrow.

However, in the process, he burnt the fragile bridge they had built between them.

It wasn’t easy for Tabby to grow up as Tack Allen’s only daughter. Members of Chaos followed a code of loyalty and protection and anyone who hurts their families, paid.

Tabby carved out a good life for herself with a profession she loved, surrounded by family and friends but she never forgot  the night at the Compound when Shy called her bluff, and broke her heart.

A few years later, when a tragedy shatters Tabby’s life, she turned to the only man that could help her pick of the pieces and make her whole again.

Shy wasn’t going to give her a sunny speech, instead he poured her a drink and listened. He wiped away her tears and held her until so he could absorb her heartbreaking pain.

But Shy wasn’t perfect and being close to Tabby tried his patience and self-control.

To him the only place she belonged was by his side. While Tabby tried to find new normal, Shy struggled to keep his feelings in check, his words soft and his touch gentle so she could reclaim the person she was always meant to be.

Review:

Not wanting to give these Alpha-bikers up after the conclusion of the Dream Man series, Kristen Ashley’s readers can be safely talked down from the ledge with Own the Wind, her first novel in the Chaos series.

She writes true to her passionate voice, while keeping her unconventional heroes strong willed, smokin’ hot and more than a little flawed. The raw emotion in this story drives the intense sexual intimacy between Shy and Tabby that readers won’t be able to get enough of.

Characters we already love make an appearance to remind us of the connection they have to others, whether it’s by blood, marriage or friendship. This story will capture your heart and take your wild side along for the ride.

I highly recommend Own the Wind and advise readers to start with the Dream Man series for the full effect.

Interview with Kristen Ashley PLUS a Fabulous Giveaway

KRISTEN-APlease join me in welcoming Kristen Ashley.

I had a wonderful time, chatting with Kristen. She’s outgoing, gracious and someone we’d all love to hang out with for an evening, sharing a cosmo, glass of wine or a cup of coffee, done up with big hair, heels,  jeans and a kick-ass belt.

Kristen, welcome and congratulations on hitting the New York Times Best list with FIRE INSIDE.

Kristen: He’ya, girlie! Thank you for having me as a guest on your blog. Love to answer questions about my books and you have some good ones, Sistah!

Selena: You are most welcome, I’m as excited in having you here as I’m sure the readers are as well. First up: What three things would you like to put inside a time capsule that will be opened in 100 years and why?

Kristen: Oooo, fun question!

1. A copy of Rock Chick because for me that really started it all.
2. One of my Harley tees because everyone should know that Harleys have always been cool.
3. My keyboard, because by then people will wonder what it is but also because a number of the keys have had the letters worn off because I do so much typing and I think that’s hilarious.

Selena: I can only imagine how faded those keys on your keyboard are. Those are great items to put in a time capsule, and I bet the future readers will open the time capsule and say….“Hey, look the original Rock Chick!”

Have you ever met an MC member up close and personal and interviewed one for research purposes?

Kristen: Hmm… I don’t tend to interview so much as experience and observe and use both copiously. I went to Sturgis and we’ll just say I interacted with a lot of bikers there, but I didn’t have a recorder in my hand (more like a beer)!

That said, I’ve now got this obsession with firemen and was recently driving home at night. I drove by the local firehouse and all the boys were out front, shooting the breeze and I was this close to swinging in and telling them I wanted to write a series of romances about firemen and ask if they’d give me the skinny. Alas, I didn’t. But I should have!

Selena: You can always go back to the fire house with a box of donuts, and bring your recorder, because I bet they’d be all talking over each other to give you their own war stories. A Kristen Ashley firemen series….get out those hoses….for the readers that is, I’m sure the e-readers will be so heated up they’ll burst into flames.

What are the three essential wardrobe staples a woman must have in order to call herself a Rock Chick?

Kristen: I’d have to say none. Every girl is a Rock Chick, no matter what age or what they wear or what they do or how they are. So Rock Chicks have no rules. It’s all about being who you are, owning that, loving it, and showing that beauty to the world.

So the three essentials are what you think they are… and whatever those are, are totally essential.

As for me, it’s my silver jewelry, my vast collection of flip-flops and really good tees.

Selena: Love it! Books, jewelry and any footwear, sound good to me. I especially love the no rules part, because well….you know….writers tend to want to break them and always think outside the box, and as Dorothy Parker said, if you obey all the rules, you miss out on a lot of fun.

Two of my favorite characters are Tex from Rock Chick and Tack from Motorcycle Man. Are their looks or personalities based on anyone you have met?

Kristen: Tex, half-and-half. He’s totally made up looks-wise however he’s based on an amalgamation of two different people in my life. One, I don’t tell anyone about. The other is my old neighbor, named Tex , who would be familiar to you because he’s a Vietnam vet, he had a lot of cats and he sat on his porch watching the neighborhood with a shotgun and night vision goggles (I’m not kidding). A very good guy who, way back when I was just starting life on my own, made me feel safe.

Tack looks a little bit like a guy I met in Sturgis, I also used him (since he was extremely good-looking so I had to spread that joy around) for Wood in the Colorado Mountain Series. But they don’t have the same personalities. Tack is… Tack. There’s no one else like him.

Selena: I agree, the mold has been shattered when it comes to Tack. He’s one of a kind.

I absolutely love the way you developed the girlfriend relationship (the-chicks-are-the-shit-posse) in your series. Friends who are like sisters enhances a gal’s life, knowing they’ll always have your back and you have theirs, and of course it’s natural to bicker at times, tease and banter.

Do you have a posse like that you can just rant, rave, share copious amounts of alcohol with, dress up and just let loose? If so, how do you let loose on these occasions?

Kristen: Well, I did, in two countries! But now that I’ve moved back to The States, I’m posse-less, kind of. I have my family and that’s the ultimate posse. My other gals and dudes are all still there but we let loose via email now. Though, those relationships in my books are about what I have with those women (and guys) in real life. I miss them. And I hope to build a posse here, eventually because I have lots of shoes that need uses! As for what we would do, anything goes. It could be ice cream. It could be fancy dinners. It could be concerts. It could be shop-a-thons. It could be big hair, high heels and drinks. It could be hiking. Anything goes!

Selena: You are more than welcome to join my girl posse any time you come to Canada. We’ll take you out for some Canadian fun and introduce you to some hot RCMP officers who can really ride….a horse that is…and rock that uniform. Could be another series in it for you.

One staple that is common throughout your books, which I personally love to read, because, hey, people do cook and eat, is either the hero or heroine’s cooking expertise, or lack of, and what they enjoy eating.

In FIRE INSIDE, there is a recipe for a quick Key Lime Pie mentioned. I want to give this a try. Is this one of your own recipes? Is it as good as Hop said it was?

Kristen: My grandmother was not a cook and this was one of her recipes. I know that sounds weird, her not being a cook and this being one of her recipes. But seeing as this takes no time to make and has three ingredients, well… there you go! She made it all the time. So yes, this is, in essence, is a “family recipe” and it… is… awesome! You must try it! It’s sweet and tart and delicious. Now I’m hankering for it. But be sure you let the lime juice concentrate thaw, stir it in with a whole tub of Cool Whip, pile that deliciousness in a graham cracker crust and let it chill (and thus set) for a good while. Ooo, this is totally going to be in my fridge tomorrow.

Selena: It does sound good, and I am going to try it. Actually, I’m going to make it for the Tasty Tuesday blog and feature it. Thanks for the recipe. Now speaking of food, let’s have a quick fire round.

This is how it will work. I will name a character and you assign a recipe name for him.

For example: If I were to think of Daisy (another favorite character of mine) and a recipe name for her, I’d say: Bubble and Squeak. I mention Bubble and Squeak in honor of our mutual friend, Gitte Doherty who introduced me to your books. Gitte, the Danish Rock Chick resides in the UK so I picked this intriguing named recipe. It also makes me giggle when I say, bubble and squeak.

Kristen: Waving to Gitte, to all the Rock Chicks and a shout out to the Sassy Siren Rock Chicks

Selena: Here we go with the quick fire round:

Kristen: Okay, just so you know, I’m not good at this. So I’m just going to type the first thing that comes to mind in the food and drink zone.

Selena: First thing that pops up, is always the best way to go.

Kristen’s answers to the quick fire:

Tack – Dark chocolate (you with me?)

Hopper – Kahlua and cream (this is what I think his voice sounds like, creamy and chocolaty)

Shy – Maraschino cherries (don’t ask me! It just came to mind – I think he might find uses for these with Tabby, though, at least the juice!)

Tex – Vanilla latte!!!!!! (‘nuff said)

Lee – Fat Tire beer (and pizza, obviously)

Hawk – Frosting (any kind) (as in, tasting it on his lips, not Hawk eating it.)

Luke – Milano cookies

Vance – Quesadillas (what I think he and Jules eat every night for dinner because that’s the only thing either of them know how to cook. Ha!)

Marcus – Caviar

I hope that works! I’m terrible at that kind of thing.

Selena: You did great! Now when we eat or drink the above mentioned, we can think of all your too-hot-to-handle hero’s.

Kristen, on behalf of romance readers who have discovered the treasure trove of your books, I want to say, “You’re the shit. Rock on!” Also, thanking on behalf of all the husbands and boyfriends who are reaping the benefits after their women read your entertaining, and engaging creativity. I’m also sure you have a bevy of male readers, and would hope they find this blog and give us their opinion on the books and how much they enjoy your writing as well.

Kristen: Aw, girl! Thank you! Right back at ‘cha, sistah! I feel the same about my readers. Know it! And rock on.

FIRE-INSIDE

FIRE INSIDE is book #2 in the Chaos Series. It takes place alongside OWN THE WIND the first book inthe series.

Contemporary Romance

ARC provided by publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love—she endured a near-death experience at the hands of her late fiancé, so she’s decided relationships are now taboo. However, she’s an alive, healthy, vibrant women who wouldn’t mind a night of hot lovin’.  Lanie propositions the bad-ass-hot-as-his-motorcycle biker, Hop Kincaid, for one night of non-committal wild sex.

Being a hot-blooded—emphasis on the hot—-man, Hop would be crazy to decline. However, in Hop’s point of view, we learn that he feels Lanie is too polished, and too classy for his tastes. Even with these misgivings, this doesn’t stop them from burning up the sheets one night.

From there, one night only turns into many carnal nights together. Lanie is happy with the physical aspect of their relationship, which she wants kept confidential, however Hop wants more, only he has to work hard to help her get rid of the demons that haunt her. He is optimistic that they could have a future together. He also realizes he’s in for a bumpy ride, because Lanie has built a concrete wall around her heart. Hop has made it his job to break through that wall with one kiss, one orgasm and one heartfelt sweet word at a time.

My Opinion of Fire Inside by Selena Robins

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read the ARC.

FIRE INSIDE is classic Kristen Ashley. You’ll laugh, you’ll fan yourself and you’ll love Hop. You will be surprised (in a real good way) at Hop’s back story and hidden talent—which has nothing to do with bedroom activity.

Do you have a rich dark chocolate bar stashed away, for the days that you want to savor its lush taste, as the flavors dance on your tongue and your endorphin’s are released, leaving you satisfied, until you need another hit some other day?

Kristen Ashley’s books are the equivalent to my personal stash of dark Godiva chocolate with the same results for my imagination and escapism at its best, with alpha hero’s that are in danger of melting my Kindle.

Romance novels that feature alpha hero’s, whose lifestyles and career choices reside in danger zones, add a fair share of suspense, with hold your breath thriller-type scenes. Mystery, suspense, gritty scenes, hard core villains and heart breaking pasts are all elements that the reader experiences in Kristen Ashley novels.

The main themes that are weaved throughout her novels are first and foremost: tough guys who will risk life and limb to protect their family, and the woman that has captured their heart and soul. Threaded through each book is compassion, all consuming love, protection, strong family commitment, close friendships—cosmo swigging female posse, who really are all the “shit” and back slapping, good natured ribbing of a band of bad ass brotherhood, that have each other’s backs.

It doesn’t matter if the hero belongs to a motorcycle club (like Hopper in FIRE INSIDE), or that he’s a commando with questionable business practices, a policeman, a night club owner with a questionable sideline business, or if the heroine is an interior decorator, business owner, a baker or sales mattresses.

Their careers are secondary to the main element that comes across in all Kristen Ashley books which are: love is not just a word it’s an active verb, support for family and friends, respect and loyalty. These traits come through loud and clear, especially under extreme conditions and they prevail throughout each of her books.

FIRE INSIDE embraces the above mentioned themes. While most of Kristen Ashley’s books contain villains and perilous situations, FIRE INSIDE focuses on Hop and Laine’s internal conflicts, emotional turmoil and this couple’s journey to building a family, accepting their past, coming to terms with their personal issues and struggling to make it all come together.

FIRE INSIDE features redemption along with the loyalty and other elements of the ongoing themes from the other series.

Kristen Ashley’s extreme alpha males are all brawn on the outside, however, their intelligence, wit and sweet side that the reader is fortunate to be made privy to, is guaranteed to melt the reader’s heart.

Hopper Kincaid is no exception. The Chaos MC member is dedicated to the club, his duties and above all he is committed to keeping his children loved, protected and cherished. During his time with Laine, he applies the same commitment and loyalty to her as well.

Often times the lines of communication are blurry and hurtful words and actions ensue, but like any other couple, Hop and Laine fight their way back to each other, sorting through all the angst and pain to find a common ground to help each other heal.

Hop and Laine’s relationship starts off with a lot of lust, no promises, no commitment, and protecting their own hearts. However, Hop is a complex character, with his own demons he’s had to battle, and his back story and the way he handled a major challenge and disappointment in his life, demonstrates that this man has integrity, a deep and honorable sense of responsibility and a strength and attraction that is not only due to just his gorgeous exterior, but to his unconditional love for his children, family, the brethren, friends and eventually to Laine.

Although Laine yearns for a family and love, she fights against it, because she has yet to face her demons. With Hop’s help she slowly releases the past, but not without a lot of angst, arguments and break-ups.

It is in their journey that the reader experiences how any two people can let go of the past, face challenges head on and put the pieces of their life and hearts back together again, even though it’s a bumpy, rocky road to happy ever after.

Readers will be pleasantly surprised to learn of one of Hop’s secret from his past. One that will have the reader smiling, cheering and visualizing it long after the book is finished.

I recommend you hop on—pun intended—to the back of Hopper’s motorcycle, wrap your arms around this bad ass, hot biker and get ready to immerse yourself in a hot and steamy ride, right from the first page to the last.

FIRE INSIDE will have you laughing at the witty dialogue we have all come to expect from a Kristen Ashley book—one of my favorite lines in the book, which had me laughing out loud:

Hop is telling Laine about Hawk (the hero in Mystery Man): “Hawk is a functioning lunatic.”

Going out for burrito’s with a hot cop!

“I’m payin’ and if you even open your mouth to argue with me, I’m gonna be forced to find a way to stop you from speaking.” — Kristy Wyatt’s favorite quote by Mitch Lawson (hero) from Law Man—Dream Man Series by Kristen Ashley.

This week we are going out to dinner with Mitch, Mara, Billy and Billie as they venture out on on their first outing for delicious burrito’s.

As Mitch said in the quote above, we can’t argue about who’s paying, which is not a problem, since we physically can’t go out to dinner with him…such a shame. However, I am offering up my version of a burrito for this Tasty Tuesday’s recipe (recipe below).

GIVEAWAY: Don’t miss out on the fabulous prizes Kristen Ashley is gifting to five lucky readers (details below).

WARNING: The discussion on this blog post and quotes from the book are of an explicit nature intended for adult audience only.

Review by Heidi Wiley

LAW MANMara Hanover never had any intention of telling her hot detective neighbor Mitch Lawson that she’s been in love with him for the past four years, but when a family crisis arises she has no choice but to turn to the man that knows the system and finds her dream man will do most anything to help her.

Law Man is the third release in the Dream Man series. This book had a different tone than the previous novels in the series.

Not only did Law Man center on the hot romance between Mara and Mitch, it also touched on the heartache endured by some in today’s society.

I loved how Kristen Ashley developed Mitch’s calm, caring attitude which made him as attractive as his looks, smarts and toughness. Mara’s willingness to give everything she had for her cousin’s children’s best interest was as heartwarming as the story it’s wrapped in.

Kristen Ashley writes this novel not only based on two lovers, but a circle of life that includes two adorable children that any reader will fall in love with.

As always, Kristen Ashley’s characters’ passion for one another is sexy hot, intense and makes us all wish our neighbors were as sexy as Detective Mitch Lawson.

I highly recommend Law Man and give it 5 Stars.

Heidi’s favorite quote: “You could cover up that nightie with a snowsuit, sweetheart, but you in my living room wearin’ nothing but that nightie is burned on my brain in a way that I like a fuckuva lot. So all I’m gonna see is you in that fuckin’ nightie no matter what you put on over it.”

“That’s insane,” I snapped.

“You’re not a guy,” he replied.

Gitte’s favorite: “I’ll go gentle, baby,” he whispered against my lips. “I promise. You’ll always be safe with me.”
“Mitch,” I breathed.
His soulful eyes held mine captive as he repeated firmly, “Always.”

“Never believed in this shit, but now, I’m thinkin’ I fell in love with the promise of you the first time I saw you.”

Kelly Bennett’s: Mitch talking to Mara: “Since I have your attention, baby, and I see you beatin’ your retreat, I want you to take this with you when you slide back into that cocoon. Straight up, Mara, I want you in my bed. And when you’re in my bed, I’m gonna be in you. And while I’m movin’ inside you, I’m gonna make you come with your long, fuckin’ legs wrapped around my back, when my hands are finally on that fantastic fuckin, ass of yours, your tongue’s in my mouth and you’re kissin’ me as only you can kiss me. I know you got a way of twistin’ shit so it’s fucked up in your brain so I’m hopin’ if I’m direct about just what I want from you, it might penetrate and you might keep it straight long enough to give us both what we’ve been wantin’ for a long fuckin’ time.”

Pat Fordyce’s: Mitch talking to the kids, Billy & Billie. “Donuts are a Sunday breakfast when you got nothin’ to do but watch cartoons. Oatmeal is a before school breakfast, when you gotta activate your brain.”

Selena’s favorite: Mitch Lawson is a hero that will melt any reader’s heart, especially when he is talking to the children as in the following two quotes I chose as my favorites:

“You sleep okay, sweetie?” Mitch asked.
“Miss my teddy,” Billie replied.
Personally, I thought Detective Mitch Lawson was far superior to a tiny pink teddy bear but I wasn’t six years old.

Mitch nodded. “Right. What I mean is, I didn’t fall in love with you all as a whole. I fell in love with each of you because of who you are. I don’t care about you because you come with Mara. I care about you because you’re a good kid. You’re smart. You’re loyal. And you love and look out for your sister and Mara. I know grown men who do not have a character as fine as yours. Those are the reasons I love you. There are different reasons I love Billie. And there are different reasons I love Mara. Today, what we had together was good. But the feelings I feel for you aren’t feelings I have to have in order to have Mara. They’re feelings you earned. Now, you with me?”

“I love you, Bud,” he whispered to Billy and two more tears escaped.

“I love you too, Mitch,” Billy whispered back, and my breath hitched and both males’ eyes came to me.

I waved my wineglass at them and murmured, “Don’t mind me. Have your moment.”

Mitch leaned back, letting Billy go and grinning at me. “Men don’t have moments.”

“You do,” I returned. “I’m witnessing one.”

“This isn’t a moment, honey, it’s a meeting of the minds,” Mitch contradicted me.

From Beefcake to Carrot Cake

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday, where this we week go from hunka-hunka-hot-Beefcake in the form of another Kristen Ashley alpha hero (Brock also known as Slim from WILD MAN) to a delicious hunk of Carrot Cake (recipe below).

WARNING: This blog post is for adults only. Some of the language in the quotes may offend some, as it is explicit. If this is a problem for anyone, then you can scroll right down to the carrot cake recipe, if not, sit back and enjoy Heidi and the other gals thoughts on Brock (also known as Slim) from WILD MAN by Kristen Ashley.

So how does a beefcake (and I’m talking drool-worthy-bad-ass-but-oh-so-damn-sexy beefcake) connect with carrot cake?

Tessa (the heroine in WILD MAN) is a baker…correction an awesome baker; pies, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, cheesecake. I was hankering for some fresh baked goods while reading this book. Good thing fantasizing about the aromatic and delicious sounding treats have zero calories.

I don’t have Tessa’s exact carrot cake recipe, so you’re stuck with my version. I’m pretty sure she would approve of this recipe.

I’m also certain that Brock/Slim would gladly lick the icing, slowly, and with purpose, taking his time, expertly swirling his tongue and hitting the sweet spot…off the icing spoon of course.

What were YOU all thinking, eh?

You can share your thoughts in the comment section. Right now please join me in welcoming, reviewer Heidi Wiley as she shares her thoughts about WILD MAN.

Plus, the Sassy-Kick-Assy-Dessert-Lovin’ bunch are back to chime in with their favorite quotes from the book.

REVIEW OF WILD MAN by HEIDI WILEY

WILD MAN is the second installment in the Dream Man Series.

Author Kristen Ashley has succeeded in building a story around two people that already had a beginning, but tied in circumstances of the past that could tear apart their future.

I immediately liked Tessa.  She is strong, sweet and has a willingness to forgive without being walked on. Brock is quick tempered but dedicated to his woman, his job and his family and will do anything to protect and take care of them.

There are authors who shy away from including children or young adults into their storylines and if they do, they’re at times only mentioned in passing. Kristen Ashley not only includes them, she gives each of them their own unique voice and personality that fits perfectly into the narrative of the main characters lives.

The author surrounds this couple with plenty of challenges; a rocky beginning, conflicted family issues, a crazy ex-husband and an even a crazier ex-wife, drug dealers and snicker doodles, but still manages to incorporate a scorching  sexy romance and bring it all together for a great read.

Highly recommend 5 stars

Heidi’s Favorite Quote:

“You ever,” he dipped his face close, mouth and eyes still smiling, “ever lock onto your control while we’re enjoyin’ each other, I’ll know one thing.  And that is, I’m not doin’ it right.”

Oh my.

“Brock–” I whispered but stopped when his face dipped even closer.

Favorite quotes from some of the members from the Sassy, Classy, Kick-Assy Group

SSSFrom Ladybug (who by the way has claimed Brock/Slim as her absolute favorite. We all have a favorite, mine is still Tack, so I have stepped aside and given Ladybug full access to Slim, although, Tess may have something to say about this.)

For all those who think we treat these characters as real people…we don’t really. Reading books in this genre provides great fantasy escapism, and it’s a shitload of fun discussing these books with these gals.

Moving on to Ladybug’s favorite quotes:

“Tess, I learned somethin’ early about you.  You are the only woman I know who doesn’t need words.  Everything you do speaks for you and it never lies.  Just your hand on me, babe, says it all.”

One of Ladybug’s favorite exchanges between Slim and Tess is when Slim drinks straight from the milk carton.

Tess said, “Um… well, now that we’re on that subject, it’s somewhat unhygienic for you to drink out of the milk jug.”

“Babe, I had my tongue in your mouth for ten minutes this morning.  How’s that any different?”

Pat Fordyce’s fave: “No one calls me Brock, they call me Slim.”

“But you aren’t slim!” Tess said.

Luci Cassar’s fave: “You wanna tell me, sweetness, how dessert for seventeen people translates into seven pies and two cakes?” Brock asked.

“Babe, you think I found the women of my dreams at 45 years old and I’m gonna let anything happen to her, think again. That’s a long fuckin’ time to wait for what you want. I waited. I found it. I’m pullin’ out all the stops to take care of it.”

Kelly Bennett’s:  Slim said, “I can’t make any promises about where this is gonna go but what I can do is give you me, keep you safe while you walk on the wild side and work my ass off to do what I can so this never goes bad for you.”

Grettel Ballestero’s: “Don´t you see? I’d walk through fire if you were what I was walking to.”

Scarlett’s:  Tess talking to Elvira (By the way, Elvira appears throughout the series in each book. She’s as sassy as they come and says whatever is on her mind, no filter…kind of like the Sassy Chicks here.)

“When a woman means something to him, he takes care of her. He told me this and I believe him. I mean something to him. I don’t know what you’ve heard or who this Hawk guy is but I know who Brock is to me. Now I’d love to have cosmos with you and the girls. But I won’t listen to anyone trash talking Brock because he also means something to me and only he and I know what’s going on between us and all that other shit, well, Elvira, it just doesn’t matter.”

Selena Robins’ faves: “Darlin’,” Brock said. “The last time I walked into a mall was two presidents ago.”

I stared at him in shock. Then I asked, “Is that even possible?”

“I got a dick and I was single so, yeah, it’s possible.”

Tess said, “When my phone rang at the bakery, this usually meant someone wanted to order a birthday cake. When Brock’s rang at the Station, this usually meant someone had a cap busted in their ass. My job was WAY better.”

Alpha Hero & Tasty Potato Recipe

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday, plus a review and favorite quotes from, Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley. A book filled with Alpha men who belong to a Motorcycle Club called CHAOS and a writing style that will entice you to read more from this author.

How does this tie into Tasty Tuesday and this week’s recipe?

Tack “Kane” Allen (the hero in Motorcycle Man and president of the motorcycle club) is a good cook…actually, according to the heroine, Tyra aka Red aka Cherry, Tack’s a great cook…in and out of the kitchen. One of the dishes he whips up for her is a potato casserole, so I’m sharing my version of Tack’s Taters (recipe below).

I’m also pleased and excited to announce that Kristen Ashley will be a guest on my blog on June 22ND.

A few months ago, Gitte from the Totally Booked Blog, introduced me to Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley, and I’ve haven’t looked back. Motorcycle Man is the last book in the Dream Man Series, but it didn’t hinder my enjoyment to start with the last book. I’ve since read all the books in the Dream Man series and enjoyed them all, but I have to say, Motorcycle Man remains my favorite.

I’m here to tell you that I have joined the readers who are addicted to Kristen Ashley’s series (all written in first person from the heroine’s point of view) and her Alpha Hero’s. I haven’t read the other series as of yet, but like all other Kristen Ashley addicts, they are on my Kindle, waiting to be read.

Motorcycle Man pulled me into CHAOS MC world right away, its gritty and raw characters, because it was so outside the box of what I usually read.

I’m an avid reader, love books from all different genres in fiction and non-fiction, from historical to contemporary and heat levels from sweet to edgy. Kristen Ashley’s writing and books have added a new dimension to my eclectic array of books to enjoy.

WARNING:

If you are easily offended by curse words or gritty dialogue, then I recommend you stop reading here and if you wish, skip down to the recipe.

If not, then sit back and enjoy a review and favorite Motorcycle Man quotes from some of the members of a group which is comprised of Sassy, Kick-Assy Chicks who rock-an-ultra-cool attitude on everything from life to books.

MOTORCYCLE MAN Review by Heidi Wiley

MM

When Tyra arrives at Ride Custom Cars and Bikes for her first day at work, she comes face to face with her new boss, Kane “Tack” Allen with whom she has shared more than a shot of tequila with. Tack is more than a little apprehensive about hiring a woman whose computer skills were not on the list of what had held his attention a few nights ago, as his new office manager.  With their attraction for each other and her sex kitten shoes getting in the way of their working relationship, they both submit to their desires but have a long road ahead of them sorting out how to accept their families, fears and the frustrations of a life they have just started to build.

Author Kristen Ashley has introduced a refreshing new kind of female character in Tyra.  She doesn’t spend time worrying about whether or not this man is trying to control her, but if she can understand his life and if there can be a place for him to share in hers.

This author has created a template for the original Alpha-Male. Tack is not sugar coated by sophistication, a private jet, or a bottomless bank account. He does not play head games and anyone that tries to get the best of this man’s mind, will lose.  Even though he is tough, his love for his family is the meaning of his life and for his past mistakes, he seeks redemption not pity.

Few authors can nail a man’s point of view through the first person of a female character. Kristen Ashley not only achieved this–she has mastered it. This story is off the charts sexy, fun and heartwarming.  I highly recommend Motorcycle Man and the rest of The Dream Man series but with a fair warning that you will seek no cure for this addiction.

Heidi’s Favorite Quotes from Motorcycle Man:

“No baby, I’m not scaring you.  You’re just scared.  You give me a little more,  you’ll see I protect it.  More, I’ll protect that too.  More, I got that too.  When you give it all to me, if it works with us in a way that lasts, you’ll never be scared.  You’ll feel safe enough to have your eyes open, your arms up and you’ll enjoy the fuck outta the ride. I’ll see to that Red, and that’s a promise.”

“I’m Chaos?”

“Was my dick just in you?”

I fought an annoyed frown and said, “Uh…yeah.”

“Then you’re Chaos.”

Gitte’s favorite quotes: “We’ve hit the hot guy motherlode.”

“Darlin’, you’re the greediest piece of ass I’ve had in my bed in a long fuckin’ time. I got a taste for greedy, you think I’m not gonna take it?”

Kame’s: “This isn’t my know-it-all grin, Red. This is my I’m gonna get me some later grin.”

I felt a couple of quivers that were on the high end of the pleasant scale. Still, I shared, ” That’s even more annoying, Tack.”

“Don’t know why since me gettin’ some means your’re gonna get some.”

Kelly Bennett’s: “Life’s a roller coaster. Best damn ride in the park. You don’t close your eyes, hold on and wait for it to be over, babe. You keep your eyes open, lift your hands straight up in the air and enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.”

“Truth, honesty, perseverance, strength, Love of all kinds and forgiveness are all beautiful, Tack. The most beautiful stories ever told are the most difficult to take.”

Kristy Wyatt’s: “I can’t function around a man if I know his ability to give pleasure.”

Selena’s:   And into the darkness, to his sleeping woman, he whispered, “You don’t know this, baby, but some men have dream women too.”

“Bottom line, no one fucks with my woman.”

“Baby,” his voice gentled, “this is me seein’ to that soft spot when I say quiet-like that I…will…be…there…in ten. And what I mean is, when I get there in ten, your ass better be there.”

Oh boy.
“Are you coming on your bike?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m in a tight, short, little aquamarine dress with high heels. I can’t get on a bike.”
“You’re in a tight, short dress and high heels?” Tack asked.
“Yes.”
“I’ll be in there in five.”

TACK’S TATERS

This recipe is loosely based on Tack’s, because he used butter and I use olive oil, but you can substitute butter for the olive oil. I think Tack also used garlic powder, and I recommend either roasted garlic or minced fresh garlic. So I did take liberties with Tack’s recipe, but the idea is the same.

Ingredients:

6 large baking potatoes (peeled, washed and dry well)

4 cloves of roasted garlic (or minced garlic)

4 sprigs of fresh rosemary

extra virgin olive oil

salt and pepper to taste

non-stick spray

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400

Spray your baking dish with non-stick spray.

In a bowl add some olive oil and your garlic and mix together.

After potatoes are dried, peel them thinly.

Arrange one layer of thinly sliced potatoes in your baking dish, overlapping each other until the bottom is all covered.

Add, rosemary leaves, salt and pepper and brush with oil, making sure some of the garlic is sprinkled on the layer.

Continue in the opposite direction with another layer of potatoes, adding rosemary, oil, garlic, salt and pepper.

Continue with more layering, until all the potatoes are used, ensuring your top layer also has oil, and the rest of the ingredients.

Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Uncover and bake for an additional 40 minutes.
